Are You Able To Switch?

It gets thrown around a lot by people because they think they’re really open to new ideas.

People might be open-minded, but only to a certain point. They draw that line of being open-minded and shutting the other person out completely.

If someone keeps agreeing with them, then the conversation is great because they’re both on the same side.

However, once the person with the other point of view starts to disagree, people shut it down and won’t listen from there on out. In these situations, people will defend themselves till the death.

We all have opinions on topics, new ideas, and crazy inventions, but being completely open-minded is crucial in every conversation.

What is True Open-Mindedness?

True 100% open-mindedness is when we have opinions on subjects and when our view point gets challenged, we don’t shut out the other side.

It’s being able to have a conversation where you don’t agree with the other view point, but you’re openly listening to what they have to say.

If changing my view point on a topic makes me better in any way, then I’m going to do it. I’m willing to set aside my pride to say that I’m wrong and improve my mindset.

I strive everyday to be completely open-minded. To just be quiet and understand what the other person has to say.

Not just to listen, but truly understand what the other person is saying. Put yourself in their shoes and understand why they have that opinion, or how they came up with that idea.

If someone can convince me enough to what their saying, then I will change my viewpoint on that subject.

Perhaps, you’re not at that point and that’s why I made this post. Every conversation becomes easier when you’re just completely open-minded.

People can talk to you about challenging topics, conversing with others won’t be a total drag, and not a fight to see who can be right. If it improves you in someway, then I say it’s worth it.

Challenge your mindset on topics, and see how open the world truly is.

Thanks and Be Great,

  1. Now that I am in my 70’s….I say to people…if you want my opinion I will give it to you, but that does not necessarily mean I want yours.
But my grand children I will always listen.
